In North Carolina, which is where most of our clients live, if you’re filing for Social Security Disability, you’re telling the federal government, “I can’t work; I’m too sick; I can’t hold a job.” If you’re filing for Unemployment in North Carolina, you’re telling the state government, “Hey, I can work; I’m ready; I’m available for work; I just can’t find a job.”  Those two things aren’t very compatible. In North Carolina, to help prevent employment fraud, they’ve passed a law that says, “If you are in the process of applying for Social Security Disability, you cannot file for Unemployment Benefits.”
