p>For VA benefits, it’s going to take a long, long time for most cases. Generally, when people come to me they may have been fighting the VA for six, seven, eight years. But when they file an initial claim right now, assuming they have been out of service for a while and they aren’t coming directly from military discharge, it’s probably going to be a year to a little over a year before they get an initial decision. If they are turned down, they have to file an appeal. They have a whole year to file an appeal. They have to wait on a decision on that appeal which can take anywhere from one year to two years. Then, if they are still denied, we ask for a hearing in front of the Board of Veteran’s Appeals. The current wait time to get a hearing in front of the Board of Veteran’s Appeals is anywhere from eight months to two years, depending on the docket backlog at the time.  So it really is a very long, long process, actually much longer than Social Security in much of the cases.
